Facilitation Skills for Impact

A Lorensbergs signature programme, aligned with IAF.

Facilitation isn’t about running meetings. It’s about making interactions matter. This programme is designed to help you lead conversations that actually go somewhere—where people think better together, make clearer decisions, and take real ownership. Along the way, you’ll build the capability (and confidence!) to move toward International Association of Facilitators (IAF) certification.

Why this programme?

Facilitation is not simply a set of tools. It is a craft. A practice.

Our design is grounded in the International Association of Facilitators (IAF) competencies—but brought to life through real practice, real tension, and real feedback.

You’ll leave able to:

  • Navigate messy group dynamics without losing direction
  • Design processes that fit the moment (not force-fit a method)
  • Create the conditions for real conversations with both structure and flexibility

And if certification is on your path, this program sets you up for it on the IAF Professional Development pathway—whether that’s the IAF Endorsed™ Facilitator or the IAF Certified Professional Facilitator.

How will we get there?

We work across the six IAF Core Competencies—not as theory to memorise, but as skills to embody:

  • Create Collaborative Client Relationships
  • Plan Appropriate Group Processes
  • Create and Sustain a Participatory Environment
  • Guide Group to Appropriate and Useful Outcomes
  • Build and Maintain Professional Knowledge
  • Model Positive Professional Attitude

Throughout, we integrate the IAF Statement of Values and Code of Ethics—because how you facilitate matters just as much as what you do.

How we make learning stick

You don’t develop facilitation skills by hearing about them.  You learn them by doing, reflecting, and doing again—better.

Our approach is built on a simple loop:
Action -> Reflection -> Learning

Action: You practice. Early and often. Real scenarios, real challenges, real-time decisions.

Reflection: We slow things down and look at what actually happened.  Not just what you did, but what it created in the room.

Learning: You extract what works, adjust your approach, and build your own facilitation judgment.

Then we go again.

Feedback that raises the bar

You’ll get:

  • Direct feedback from IAF Certified™ facilitators
  • Peer insight from watching and being watched in action
  • Structured self-reflection so you build your own judgment

Your trainers

Our trainers are practitioners first.

Every Lorensbergs facilitator:

  • Is an active IAF member
  • Has facilitated multiple high-stakes sessions in recent years
  • Brings current, lived experience into the room

Lead Trainer:
Fredrik Apelberg, IAF Certified™ Professional Facilitator (CPF)

Behind the scenes, the program is shaped by deep expertise in adult learning and facilitation design—so what you experience is intentional, not accidental.

Lead & Facilitate Impact as a Sustainability Leader

Sustainability issues are becoming increasingly important, but the path there can be challenging.
Many people working in sustainability find it difficult to get their voices heard, get their issues on the agenda, and gain the necessary support from management. It can also be mentally challenging to work on such complex and long-term issues, and it’s easy to feel alone.
Skills in influencing, collaboration, and behavioural change are crucial to creating real and long-term change. We offer those working in sustainability an opportunity to upskill in these areas.

For whom?

The programme is for you who work with sustainability within your organisation, whether you are responsible or involved in other way.

You might be:

  • Head of Sustainability/Responsible
  • Sustainability Specialist
Structure:
  • Four digital modules (3 hours), with two-week intervals.
  • You can choose individual modules or take the entire program.
  • After each module, you will be divided into small learning groups where you will receive exercises and structure to share experiences about your daily challenges.
Content:
  • Tools and strategies to communicate, inspire and build engagement around sustainability questions.
  • Strategies for how to manage stress and maintain motivation and well-being in your work.
  • The opportunity to network with others with similar challenges and experiences.

Our starting point is that the programme complements expertise in, for example, sustainability frameworks, legislation, climate calculations, circular business models and materiality analyses.

Detailed content in the modules

Module 1: Leading in Complexity

  • Identify the characteristics of a complex environment.
  • Apply tools and models to understand and explain your complexity.
  • Develop strategies for how to manage complexity.

Module 2: Influence with an inspiring vision

  • Identify key stakeholders and target groups in your ecosystem.
  • Adapt and practice presenting the vision to different target groups.

Module 3: Facilitate engagement and collaboration

  • Identify motivators and resistance.
  • Practice facilitation to create inclusion, accountability, and a willingness to change.

Module 4: Strengthen you own resilience

  • Identify your personal inner drivers and values.
  • Develop strategies to manage stress, increase your resilience and create long-term sustainability.
Your time and your commitment:
  • The programme is based on you, in addition to participating in the modules, actively creating time and space to use tools and strategies relevant to you.
  • After each module, you will be invited to a smaller learning group that meets to share experiences and support each other in your challenges (at least 1 hour).
